Dear Readers,

Since its founding in August 2018, The Cornell Diplomat has been dedicated to sharing student perspectives on global challenges. Each semester, we bring together a group of talented writers, editors and artists to create an accessible and engaging magazine that brings to light international challenges not frequently seen in mainstream discourse. Our past issues have tackled subjects such as regime stability, the politicization of gender, the geopolitics of resources, the influence of borders, and civil disobedience in Regime (In)Stability, The Gender Issue, Rethinking Resources, Borders, and Civil Disobedience.

In our sixth issue,Youth, we wanted to examine how the young influence and are affected by global challenges. Children make headlines for heroism and activism while their peers remain hidden in the shadows of global conflicts and institutional oppression. Despite being exploited, manipulated and ignored, the youth are a powerful tool for progress that should not be underestimated. In this issue, we try to showcase the strength and potential of the next generation of leaders, as well as the role children play in social, political, and economic agendas. In doing so, we consider topics such as how disasters affect children’s development, the role standardized tests play in raising the next generation, and how children can be used as propaganda.

Returning to Goldwin Smith Hall after over a year on Zoom has been a difficult but welcomed transition. The Diplomat has been an invaluable addition to our life at Cornell, and we are grateful to our supporters and readers. With more articles than ever before, this semester's issue exemplifies the hard work and dedication of our members. We could not be more proud of our staff’s work and hope you enjoy our sixth issue: Youth.
